Preteen urinary disorders

Urinary Disorders
Urinary disorders usually occur in infants and young children, but it can also occur in preteens. The most common symptoms are bladder control problems, that cause anguish to both children and parents.

A piece of information
In preteens the causes for urinary disorders are an infection or a physical abnormality in the urinary system or nervous system.

the most common symptoms are: incontinence, pain during urination and other urinating problems. Address to a doctor in order to find the cause and to be offered the proper treatment.

Urinary tract infections
Infections occur when the bacteria builds up in the urethra, leading to the inflammation of the tissue. This causes frequent and painful urination or incontinence. In case an infection is not treated, it may become worse and it may cause a kidney or bladder infection.

About physical abnormalities
The physical abnormalities that influence the urinary system are usually diagnosed after birth. Yet, there are cases when the abnormalities are discovered in preteen age. Examples of such abnormalities include: an extra ureter (causing incontinence), a growth like a polyp in the urethra (blocking the urine flow and causing pain during urination).

Available treatments
It’s recommended to address to the doctor for treating preteen urinary disorders. Antibiotics are usually prescribed for counteracting the bacteria that caused the problem. In case of physical abnormalities, surgery is the most effective treatment.

Conclusions
In case of incontinence issue, it’s recommend to give the child time to grow out of it. In case the disorders occur even after becoming preteen, you have to address to a doctor, as not finding a treatment can lead to painful urination or repeated infections, also causing social anxiety and distress.
