Difference between liposuction and liposculpture?

Many plastic surgeons believe that liposuction and liposculpture are basically two names for the same type of procedure. Others say that liposuction is usually eliminate fat deposits around the body of great size. Liposuction, however, not only involves the removal of fatty tissue, but relocates the skin, in order to achieve the body contour.

If liposuction usually involves removing large deposits of fat, then liposuction is the type of cosmetic surgery in which small deposits of fat removed, such as those often found under the chin, or remodeling small fatty deposits around the calves and ankles. Liposuction and liposculpture are usually performed in the same way, using the same type of equipment.

Most surgeons consider tumescent liposuction being the safest and most effective technique for liposuction and liposculpture. General Tumescent liposuction involves injecting a chemical into the skin, which helps break down fatty tissue, a small surgical tube or cannula is inserted under the skin through a small incision, and a vacuum device is used to suction the tissue fatty. The main difference between liposuction and liposculpture is the volume of fat tissue removed at each procedure. Liposuction is used to refer to the removal of large fat deposits in the abdomen, thighs and hips. Liposuction, which uses microcannulas usually focuses more on removing small fat deposits such as those often found under the chin, underarms, and around the legs.

Both procedures usually eliminate fat cells from the treatment area permanently. Experts believe that fatty deposits may reappear after liposuction or liposculpture. These procedures are tools to improve body contour, but not generally used to produce weight loss. The best candidates for these procedures are generally people under forty, who have a healthy weight and not smoking. Liposuction and liposculpture are used to remove fat deposits and body shapes that have proved abundant resistant to diet and exercise regimens.
