Curing temporomandibular joint disorder headaches naturally

Headaches
Temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ) can cause headaches. TMJ symptoms include clicking or popping in the jaw while eating, talking or yawning, neck pains or headaches. Find bellow some tips that can help you cure the headaches caused by temporomandibular joint disorder illness.

What to use: soft foods, hot water bottle, ice pack, towel, aromatherapy oil.

  • Eat foods that don’t imply additional stress on the jaw, such as pudding, rice, bananas or soft foods.
  • Apply alternate heat and cold on the affected area. Take a bottle with hot water, wrap it in a towel and put it on the jaws and temple for 15 minutes. Wait 15 minutes and then wrap an ice pack in a towel and apply it on the jaws and temple for another 15 minutes. Follow these steps every hour if the pain persists.
  • Exercise. Open the mouth widely and press your fist into the chin. Press the jaw back towards the back of the head. Keep pressing for about 30 seconds, then release the jaw. do this exercise 4 times a day.
  • Massage the jaw in order to release the jaw tension. Rub gently the hinge where the jaw meets the skull, near the years. Massage until the headache dissipates.
  • Use aromatherapy to relax. Use lavender or chamomile oils and put some drops on the forehead, on the jaws and near the nose. Stay into a dark room and take deep breathe for about 10 minutes.
