Treating a kitchen oil burn

Treating a kitchen oil burn

Burns

What to use: cool water, clean cloth, burn cream/lotion, bandage.

  • Step away from the hot oil and take off the clothing and jewelry that could be contaminated.
  • Cool down the burn by keeping it under cool water for 15 minutes.
Don't use ice as this can harm the tissues. Take a cloth and wet it into cool running water and put it on the burn in order to relieve pain.
  • It's important to moisture the burn in order to prevent tissue damage, thus apply burn cream or lotion. Dress loosely the burn with a clean gauze.
  • Go to the doctor in order to make sure the burn is not infected. In case the burn is on a large area, it's recommended to see a doctor as soon as possible.
